vtr drive shaft query

    hi all, hoping someone might be able to help me with this, have a saxo vtr 2003, and the drivers side drive shaft has gone, which i understand is a common problem on saxos. anyway i went to the local breakers yard and got a drive shaft off another saxo which i believed to be a mk2 vtr(although the badges and number plates had all been removed) but seemed to be same spec as mine. i came home and removed my shaft, and proceeded to fit the new one, with no success. i lined the two shafts up together and there a couple of differences, where the shaft fits into the bearing in the hub my broken shaft has a tapered cone type fitment, the new one is flat, and the threads for the big nut is shorter. anyway i managed to fit it but its not right, its jumping inside that tube where the carrier is, and it feels like its only properly running on one shaft(pulling to the left) so basically my question is, is there any variantion on mk11 vtr drive shafts or is it likely the car i got the other one off is a 1.4 coast edition or something? would they be different? Any advice would be a great help. Cheers

    if yours was tapered you need a tapered shaft, if yours was flat you need a flat otherwise it wont seat properly

    ok thanks, do you know if there is 2 types on vtr's or if it was probably a different model, dont wanna have the same problem again as ill have to take it off before i can see how it seats wont i?

    There are 2 types of driveshaft non tapered & tapered,right across the saxo models.It depends on when your saxo was made,but as above you need the correct shaft for your saxo.

    just look at the bonnet that will tell you if its mk2 or not also if the grill is on the car then its a mk1

    Not necessarily the correct way to tell which shafts it uses as some early mk2's used the flat type shaft/bearing and some used tapered type, as the OP is now finding out... ( around 2000 reg time usually was crossover typically ) .
