Trasmission

Hi guys I bought a 59k 98 VTR and the clutch is incredibly high, there is a scraping sound from the front of the car until I depress the clutch then it goes away and my car struggles to stall in 2nd, 3rd or 4th (think cruise control)! So my guess is a full clutch kit will sort this.. Ordered a LUK this morn.. However I noticed today that the gearbox clunks when I put it into reverse regardless of the engine being on or off, or if i try engage reverse from neutral or in a gear.. Same results (I am stationary at all times just so you know).. Am I correct in thinking 5th is screwed or could it be a problem related to the clutch? I did use the search function but the keywords were far too general and brought up lots of pages with people who have issues in 2nd and 3rd nobody with the specific reverse problem...

Any help would be appreciated as I will be tackling the clutch tomorrow once it has arrived (got a haynes but people's experience and advice are invaluable when it comes to working on a specific model)

Also I would like to add that when the car is off the reverse engages with a clunk WITHOUT the use of the clutch

Is it possible that engaging reverse is causing the selector rods to hit your exhaust?
