help needed!!!! vts convertion

  1. #1
Hows every one doing - my saxo is coming off the road in the next month for the winter and is getting some major work done to it..
First --- Im going to look at a vts engine the night to do a convertion. its got uprated ecu, power boost valve, super chipped and cams done to it.What sort of power is this likly to give out?
My saxo is curently a 1.4 furio and doing a vts convertion -what all will i need from a donner car to do the convertion?
Will it work if i keep the 1.4 gear box in as i am thining it will be better for accelaration.
I am also going to fit either twin 40 webbers or a throttle body - can any one tell me which would be better and why.and what power dain im i most likely to get from each?
    Help would be great!

Twin webbers wont get you an MOT so T?B's all the way.

tb' you will need standalone, not sure if they will pass emissions either.
your car will accelerate slower with the 1.4 box on.
    is yours a 3 plug?
you will need vts ecu and loom, ecu will need to be unlocked.
best off getting vts rad and fan.
    vts rad hoses.
    vts ecu engine mount.
think thats it off the top of my head.

Ok to put webbers on you'll need to modify fueling system as it will be too pressurised and you will also need to plug the injector holes in the head... thats the downside of carbs... but on the plus side as long as you fit a choke cable then you can ditch the ECU and all the electrical gubbins and it won't need a re-map... just a quick tune. You wouldn't see the sorts of gains with carbs as you'd see on an older engine. As for TB's the bigger the inlet the more air you'll get, bike tb's are around 37mm inlets and will make about 15-20bhp with the re-map and cams but 47mm GMC bad boys would see you around 30 but be prepared to seperate with a nice wedge of cash. As for the VTS swap its fairly straight forward bolting it in and aslong as you can read the numbers on the loom its easy to wire. The list above is correct for parts you need... oh and think about VTS brakes aswell!

I'd say that the downside is this method is older than most of the members on here and has no ability to conform to admission standards.

T/B's has got to be the only realistic "I need an MOT" option but I imagine there going to be tricky to set up correctly.

Ah.... but, I sure I could legaly find a way to skip emissions.... if you read the MOT testers guidelines handbook there are a few get outs regarding modified engines.... don't know how it would relate to the new computerised system though

I've got my doubts "Mr Loophole"

with carbs you'd still need an ecu to control the spark timing.
i think the furio brakes are the same size as vts just not vented discs. if your upgrading brakes you may aswell go bigger.

you wont need to chop any wires its all plug and play. vtr to vts is anyway.

i dont think you would pas an MOT with either carbs or tb's tbh (emissions wise).

dont furios have rear drums? so wudnt you need a rear axle off a vtr/s so u got disks on the back, cant be having a vts with drums on the back

get a copy of the autodata cd and a haynes manual they both have good diagrams etc in them

so you think tb are the best to go for? can anyone tell me a place to order them from or someone was sayng about motor bike ones. the discs up front are vented/grovved but ill have to change the rear to discs...... web site with more tunnning parts for the vts would be greatfull

you can leave the drums on the rear if you want. try GMC for tb's.
