engine change situation

    Right so i've been on the hunt for a 1.4 to put into my westy as the current 1.1 is on the way out (no, "just a put a VT lump in" please, don't waste yours and my time) and i'm fed up of spending money on it. Today i got a phone call saying a friend of a friend had one sitting in his shed and wanted rid of it, he said he'd give it to me but i give him a tenner none the less. However, it doesn't have a wiring loom and has the automatic like plate thing coming out the crank shaft. Queries i have are can i just buy another loom for the same model engine, unlock my ecu and things be okay? Also i presume there isn't nothing different about the engine it being a auto and i just need to unbolt the auto plate/clutch and bolt it onto my clutch and gearbox from my car?

    You may think why i brought it without knowing this, but i thought for a tenner even if it isn't what i want i'd be able to make some money on it after giving it a clean anyway.

    isn't a westcoast a 1.4 anyways?
    you may need to swap the flywheel over also.
    if it's a mk1 engine and so is yours (both single plug) should be plug and play using your wiring loom. just need to get ahold of a 1.4 ecu, unlocked ofcourse.

    Sorry mate been a spastic its a 1.1 easty ha had the car a year and don't even know what it is! Yes its from a mk1 99 reg 1.4... Could check myself but are there any sensors that are different? Seen the mine is single point. Gear box wise am I right in thinking I should just swap everything over clutch flywheel wise yeah? Or should I get a new 1.4 as well, I know its good practice to change the clutch when you can but mine only just had a new one I put in two weeks ago??

    i've done this a few weeks back but i did a 1.4 furio engine i'd get the single plug loom, ecu. im using my 1.1 gearbox on it and it fitted fine! but make sure you sort out fueling as eastcoasts have a return and it could just be me but im making a mess of it lol! pm me if you want any info and im not far from essex

    Best I find a loom then. Anyone reccomend a place to unlock my ecu?

    As above because the engine may still have the torque convertor still fitted.

    That camP?? He lives round my way I think.. I'll get hold of him at some point. you using a 1.1 clutch as well as the box mate?

    im not to sure think it camP, i think im using the clutch that came with the engine as it was newish! where abouts you located mate?

    Yeah it was, just sent him a message see what he can do... So that probably a 1.4 then no doubt. Lot of people have said use the clutch for the same engine but I'm reluctant as I just put a new one in my one :/ halstead essex mate

    that is a bummer, but would be best to use the clutch from the engine so you dont have any problems! you going to run the 1.1 box or the 1.4?

    and your only an hour away let me know if you need a hand!!!

    EDIT: get a 4 stud conversion done and get 266 brakes

    1.1 and 1.4 clutches are the same 180mm iirc and vtr/s are plus a 1.1 box is better than a 1.4 has better ratio's

    you know it makes sense! 1.4 engine with the 1.1 box!

    looks like i got someone else with the same setup

    mate i would recomend a 1.1 box on a vtr and even a vts if you couldnt get a S box

    1.1 mate haven't got 1.4 box. So reckon i'll just have to suck up and pay for a new clutch. . . . 1.1 clutch soon to be for sale anyone? ?

    oh, seems everywhere else they say have the clutch for the same engine. but i'll keep digging. cheers
