Squeaky/ stiff gear change

  1. #1
Any ideas what could be causing this? Doesn't happen all the time, but mostly when the engine is warm. Gear change stiffens up when the noise is present.

Gear linkages are the original items, 60k old. Recently removed them, packed them out with grease, and refitted - no change. The gearstick itself has also been replaced recently as the ball had cracked on the bottom - no change.

I guess either the linkages are to blame, or the 'gear controller' with the rubber ball on the end. Any thoughts?

    Cheers

Is the oil in the box correct spec and up to the mark?

Yup, the box is fine. Was fully rebuilt a year or so ago.

Has Total BV 75W80 oil in it, changed a couple of k miles ago.

could possibly be the nylon ball, get underneath and see if you can feel anything graunching on the mechanism (heatshields, manifolds etc)
