Coolant expansion tank cap is leaking

  1. #1
I seem to loosing a lot of water (not steam) coming from the top of the cap. The seal doesn't seem to have deteriorated but its not doing its job.

    I have a saxo vtr 1.6 03 cammed

Any ideas on where I could get this cap? or some sort of solution?

    Cheers

its a presure release cap so it will let water out if it exceeds its pressure limit so it seems to be soemthing wrong with your coolant system (if your convinced your cap is fine), does the car over heat?

check the oil filler cap for sludge/mayo

sounds like head is pressurising your water..eg heag gasket gone

    get a compression test done

    You bled the system?

Yeah the car overheats often when stationary but not when moving, I never let the water exceed the max.. so im not sure why there's so much pressure there for it to be spitting it back out

try bleeding the car first remove all air fromt he system always the best place to start, takes a couple min to do and is free lol

but as said if the h/g has gone then the coolant system will be pressurised, my car overheated when stationary but once i bled it again has been fine ever since

    ahh i see

it sounds like head gasket tbh..but as said..empty and bleed the system

check the oil and filler cap..

and if its still happening take it for a compression test

when the head gasket goes..the compression from the cylinders blow the water out the cooling system if its leaked between a water gallery

I live in Blandford, will try re-bleeding the rad first. But might get back to you if the problem is still there.

just because the seal looks ok, does not mean you can rule it out.

get a new one, they are around £5. its worth a try.

if not, bled the system. If not, compression test. check results.
