Fitting a ccf bonnet?

  1. #1
Well I finally started to get some glass panels for the saxo to get it lightweight before the big build next year.

But looking for some advice on fitting it. I don't really want to use pins or aero catches because I don't want any one to know its fibreglass. Any advice would be good only ever fitted one carbon bonnet and that was a piss ball compared to this.

    Cheers.

Tt has a striker plate on it at the front but its 4 inch from the catch. The holes at the rear where the hinge mounts has no captive bolts so I am stuck up shit creek.

ah crap yea this bonent my housemate had was made by some guy on 106moaners, who had his own moulds etc and he made them to be direct fit

bit out my delth now but sounds like if you ave no caltive nuts or a way of using the bonnet catch then it'll have to be bonnet pins/aero catches, i persoanlly love the look of aero catches but i understand you want an understated car, im sure there are bonnets on ebay which use oem fittings such as
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAXO-MK2-F...item2c54cc9c8d

just noticed they have smooth grilles though whcih again im sure isnt what you're after

EDIT: one with an open grille http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAXO-MK2-F...item2c5464b682

That's the one I have mate, I got it from JoshB yesterday but spend all day shaping it and fitting the standard grill so it looks as close so standard as possible. From what you have said I am guessing I will have to cut the captive nuts and the catch from the standard bonnet and fibre glass them in place.

oh really??? so these bonnets dont do what they state "THIS ITEM COMES COMPLETE READY TO FIX TO EXISITING FIXINGS ON CAR ." i took that as it simply bolts straight on? i was looking at buying one of their oem looking mk1 bonnets for mine and maybe the boot as well

tbh wait until some one more knoweldgeable on the subject comments, might have some innovative ideas to try, but from what ive read your handy at the old bodywork side of things so im sure you could get it fitted from your suggestion above

Well I cant say how they all are mate as I don't know how old this bonnet is But the rear hinge bolt holes have no nut in them as it looks like just a thread in the fibreglass and my magnet wont stick so I don't trust the strength of them as for the front its so far out that even if i slotted the holes on the striker I couldn't move it far enough to fit.

Yeah I know bodywork and fibreglass but how this is made really baffles me tbh.

Ill give it till tomorrow and see if anyone has any ideas. Cheers,

They are designed to be used with pins as otherwise you run the risk of the catch snapping off!

No they are designed to be a direct replacement without pins this is why I got a ccf bonnet.

Talking to the bloke who makes them today via ebay he is sending me a latch panel to fit the bonnet and has told me how to go about fitting the captive nuts. Nice bloke to say he has nothing to do with the bloke i got the bonnet from.

glad you may have it sorted im a bit happier buying from him now, doesnt seem to live that far from me so if and when i do buy one i may just pay them to fit it or get it in a 'bolt on' state for me

What about some form of magnetic catch?
