vtr running/cutting out problem

  1. #1
ive had my 2000 vtr for a while now and just the other day it started running weirdly.
i deliver pizzas in it so its a lot of stop starting, unsure if this could cause any problems like this, but heres the deal:
low on petrol, almost empty tank so put £20 fuel save unleaded from shell, drove around delivering hot slices of family life, then after stop starting 5/6 times on first turn of the key, starts no bother, idles 1.5k for a second (has always done so) then drops to like 950 then just seems to be starved of fuel as wont rev at all then it just tries idling at approx 400 then cuts out, start it up again, idles lumpy then cuts out, then start again idles fine and drives fine, has lost all power and cut out twice while driving fair distances

before i go replacing every sensor and cleaning icv throttle body etc, is there anybody who has had this fault?

service is due in 5k, unsure if its dodgey fuel or anything so going to run it down and fill with high octane fuel and change all filters

any help greatly appreciated as i cant deliver without it

Also used injector cleaner after this problem occurred and no different, stalled a few times just before and was cranking over but not starting, started very jumpily then stalled three times then fine for a little then same again.

    If anybody is reading this.
Cleaned throttle body with carb cleaner, tried a new coil pack, no different, seems to be when its warm but has done is this morning when it was cool, got a fuel filter to fit then trying ect sensor.
Anybody who can shine any light on this please do.

check the throttle cable is able to move freely ie isnt catching anything ? bit of and on one :/

Not throttle cable or anything, throttle body and cable move fine. Doing my head in!
Ect sensor and fuel pump are next in question

i reckon fuel pump to be honest

I've got a spare fuel pump and bought fuel filter today, trying fuel filter first then pump.
if its neither then im going to cry.

Done simple things? Plugs, leads, air filter blah blah blah yeah? Right next make sure the batterys charged properly, should be about 12.6-12.7 with engine off and 14ish with engine running... When it dies do you just turn the key or go to ignition and listen for the pump? Have you tried a test light on the pump? Is there a common factor to it cutting out? After starting, high load, low-zero load?

Tried new coilpack and exactly the same, air filter is clean and not clogged, done all the voltage tests from battery and back of alternator and reading are perfect. And more so when I back off the throttle then go back on, seems to starve itself of fuel. Steps tomorrow are fuel filter, pump then maybe fuel pump relay

Try that and see what happens...

Fuel filter didnt fix it, fuel pump seems to cured it, just the float was fucked on the one haha
