Important! : Does this sound like a misfire? Oh and wtf are these....

    Hi guys
Car is feeling a little sluggish sometimes, slow to pick up
So I filmed the exhaust note
This is just after a clean so ignore the steam....
    http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...934557313B.mp4

Sometimes you can just hear it drop a little bit - or am I psycho?

Oh and if you can't diagnose that, then here is one for you:
    What the dickens are these...?

I wanna say llama/alpaca but their necks are deceiving!

Please help! Priority is the 1st one

    Thanks

Mine is like this at the moment. Revs stay at 900 when warm, but every so often the car will drop like the video. Mines a little worse than this though I think.

It sometimes likes to blip the throttle itself too :/ and will bounce from like 500-1500...

Yeah it revs really freely but sometimes when driving I will feel like it is nearly holding back :/

Ok, I've looked at video now.

Dodgy idle can be ICV, it's common and easy to clean. Very good guide in one of the stickies, I think in the engine section.

The hesitation in driving could be a spark issue. Have the plugs been changed? If not, possibly coil pack.

Once we know a bit more, can suggest more possibilities.

Could be two problems going on, I'd suggest cleaning the ICV, changing the plugs if they need doing and trying some injector cleaner through it first.

    Cheers bud will do that
    ICV clean with carb cleaner
    Sparks change
    Injector cleaner
    Fuel filter change

    Then coilpack change if persists!

I think there's a dodgy idle guide in this sections sticky too.

    Shall have a look
But the weird thing is when that sounds like that the dials display a consistent 900rpm :/

I'll try those steps as said and report back

    Just for utter confusions!! :-)

Having just driven, can say that the car struggles to pick up revs from 2kish but then will instantly come back alive
    Possible fuel line problem?
    Starvation?
    Poor filtration?
    Or spark problem?
  17. #17
    Any other diagnosis
Gonna give the icv a clean today using carb cleaner and the guide
    Then see how it sits
  18. #18
So just cleaned the ICV with wynns cleaner
worked really well from black and sludgy to a nice silver clean finish!
so fit it back in and went for an 8 mile + drive
car idled nicely, didnt struggle for power (much)
so i think thats sorted the idle lumpiness, next going to give a service so sparks, oil/fuel filter and oil change
see how it stands after that
  19. #19
try green temperature sensor for dodgy idle, was the last thing I tried but it worked.

    How do you mean 'try'?
    Get a new one?
  21. #21

    Nice one
Will do the service, and a coolant drop then swap this too!
  23. #23
    Done a full service change
    Oil
    Oil filter
    Fuel filter
    Sparks
    Gearbox oil

Still hesitant in 3rd! Feels like wind is blowing against it when cruising at 2/3k RPM!

I'm thinking coilpack next? As new spark plugs are in, and still happening!!
  24. #24
Mine does this - and the EML says it's map sensor.

My idle only bounces low after I boot it.. and that's when the EML comes on

Mine doesnt even flash the EML!
And I've cleaned the map sensor as well! Grrrrr!

So as a full diagnosis of my issue
When driving, mainly gears 3 and 4, and a bit after starting the car so it is a little warm, but also when I've driven for a while
It feels like it is holding back/wind blowing against the car
Only between 2k and 3k with gentle throttle
If I plant it, it picks up and goes, but if I just rest at that RPM it feels hesitant/stuttering

    I have changed:
    Oil
    Oil filter
    Fuel filter
    Spark plugs
And used a bottle of Slick 50 injector cleaner
All within the last week - problem still persists!

In summary, hesitant to pick up speed when light throttle applied in 3rd/4th between 2k and 3k rpm

Could the clutch be 'biting' and need slackening off slightly? Had the release bearing changed recently but was told the clutch was fine!
Does the throttle cable need some lubricant sprayed down it? Could be catching!?
    Coolant related...?
    Coilpack change?
  27. #27
Any ideas? trying to keep this fresh
  28. #28
I had a similar problem with my vts, It would hesitate at around 2-3k rpm.
Turned out to be the map sensor after changing near enough every other bloody sensor!

Sometimes the engine management light won't come on even if the map sensor is playing up, because the ecu is still getting a map reading, just an incorrect map reading.
Might be worth a try, they are £30 at GSF.

I think either going to be the map sensor, coil pack, crank sensor, or water temp sensor

    Thanks bud
I will try them in the order above

I'm having the car put on the diagnositics test the EML hasn't ever been on in my ownership, but always worth a look!
  31. #31
Code is coming back for the intake air temperature sensor
    I'm adamant I don't have one!
    Any help please!
Is it part of the map sensor?
  32. #32
Little grey sensor poking through the bottom of the throttle body
  33. #33
Mine does this, you can feel the car judder slightly traffic lights. And the exhaust puts.

    The misfire im on about

Found it!! Problem on the way to being solved
One of the wires for the MAP sensor had snapped, I can only assume the MAP sensor contains the IAT, therefore that wire was for the IAT, bringing the code up!
I'm in the process of re-connecting the wire and we will see how we go!
  36. #36
    Connected the wires back up
    Seems to be sorted
Just gotta get the code cleared again using mechanics 3 grand snap on code reader :O
Think it tells you more about the car, than Citroen did when they made it! Haha
But at least it's sorted and can't believe it was something so glaringly obvious :/
  37. #37
    Codes cleared yesterday
Had 2 regarding the decat/lambdas and the one about the IAT
Sorted the IAT and cleared the code, didn't come back on vehicle restart so think it is solved
Car hasn't felt sluggish/hesitant since - so JOB DONE
