rusty floor beam, changed. questions.

I had an rusty beam, cut Most of it away, then i made one, but in two parts because it turns and goes out to the left under the Seat.

its the one on the Picture. I tried lift it on the beam to see if it sat correctly and i see the floor goes/bents in.. Tried on the other part where i havent changed anything. And the floor doesnt moves up or bents in, i lift the whole car.

i used 1,2mm thick Steel about the same as was there before. I dont know if it was like this before i welded and cutted, if so i wouldnt bother, but now i dont know.

Sorry bud but the welding for that beam looks suspect, the joins don`t sit flush.

That's not a good job there buddy I'm afraid. From the limited view the photo gives anyway. Which is weird, as your other welding isn't bad in my opinion.

Can we get some more photos?

Also & not having a go at the op but the floor paing adjacent to the welded box section looks heavily corroded. It has a look of wet cardboard(if that make sense)

Do you refer to the distance between the beam and the floor?
the beam was removed and after this pic and i reinforced it on the inside.

Still on this Picture it was welded when the jack hold it up with a slight pressure on it to see so it sat tight, so the distance you can see on the Picture, that part i could have just hammered so it sat tight to the floor.

So, i already had it reweld, but not bcoz of the distance.

and where the box sits, was a bit metal that the rust had started to get onto, but it wasnt that bad. i changed the metal to the right in the Picture , to the left from where you jack the car.

The welds look messy tho bcoz of the flux wire, almost like arc welding. As you dont need gas for it.

Welded this to in a couple of hours including mounting/demont to get right angles.

The beam is however better and stronger than before..
As im drivin it everyday i want it to be safe, i still didnt just used filler to fill the rust holes Danny.

dont know why everyone is criticising it. most on here just drive around with holes in the chassis opposed to have a crack at welding it.
I personally would have put inch welds on, but i know how hard it is welding up saxos that are rotten, they spit and pop everywhere, who knows where citroen got the metal from.
Its a scruffy weld, but the standard piece is only spot welded on so is still stronger!
seen far worse get through an MOT. and it looks about right, if it scraped, just cut it down a little and weld the face back on.

+1 to this there is a real art/knack to welding & tbf that box section thats been welded in doesn`t look right.

What box section do you mean?
  15. #15
The piece on the left thats been welded mate, doesn`t line up with the existing section.

Tbh mate your welding isn't bad from what I can see on the exhaust. As a rule of thumb for every 6 inch you weld chassis wise should have 2 inch of weld to take the strain and weight of the car. Stitch weld should be used or a spot weld every inch using a zink rich weld through primer.

Not pulling your work apart just seen it too many times where the cars back has been broken from weak welds.

telling you now mate that won't pass an mot like that.

would have plug welded it myself with a few stich welds every 4 inches of about 1 inch long.

but the chassis leg was never a good place to jack a car up hence the jacking points are re-enforced.

    What welder do you use?

drivin from the mot to my garage atm.. The beam was Good welded, but it didnt got thru, thw lights aint the right height , and the exhaust values where crap.. Thwn we noticed there is no lambdasensor in my exhaust.. so now i need to find it and weld it in.. Where is the Connection supposed to sit?
