Has anyone got a cammed vtr?

I am thinking about putting a cam in my vtr, and was wondering what sort of diiference it makes and also how badly has it affected your fuel comsumption?.

it makes quite a bit of difference but it needs to be done with other mods to get the best from it. what cam are you thinking about getting?

yeah we have got one hes called cammedvtr lol

mines cam'd, remap and couple of other bits, makes a nice difference, and my fuel is better than standard, got about 280 miles standard and 320 miles cam'd, comes down slightly with nitrous on tho

I have a cam waiting to be fitted, and have been quoted a reasonable price to fit. But i cant justify the £450 to get it remapped at Chipwizards (or about £700-800 total fitted and remapped) for 10-15bhp. I have been quoted around £270 to have it mapped else where but i dont know if it'l be as good as i dont know there reputation like CWs.

i think for the price of a cam and remap, you may aswell go an drop in a vts lump, then save and do subtle mods on that and u got a faster motor alltogehter

i had big dreams bout cammin my vtr etc etc but im goin vts conversion now get the most for my money

If i was planning on keeping my car for the next few years then a vts conversion is what id go for. Or go for the more sensible option, just buy a vts.

    My old VTR ..
    http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/3693317

was cammed, I had Fast road cams, head skimmed and port polish , i had GMC 4-1 Manifold, de-cat and custom made twin oval exhuasts, and greens forced air induction kit

The cams do make it a lot more responsive and quick,

As for fuel consumption I also found I could get more MPG, but only if i did not thrape her, the problem was with the above mods the car sounded amazing so i was always thrapin for the sound and the thrills ,

BTW If anyone sees that car driving about let me know, I might buy it bak ;-)

fcuk me...... £700 for cam+remap ? are you people mad ? for that much just dump a VTS / 106 GTI engine in it, and you can get a mint one for that much fitted. No cam / ecu remap / any other type of mod (unless turbo/supercharger) can justify that much money being spent on a saxo vtr, even a cammed vtr (highly tuned sub turbo'd/supercharged etc) cant really shake off a standard vts ! imo...

    Over here a 16v conversion costs.... £ 3600!!

Cheaper for me to drive to England and have it fitted there.

Cheers guys, I was going to do a vts conversion, but i would rather keep the vtr engine and do as much to that as i can.

Which is the best cam kit to get?

Just sticking a VTS engine in is what everyone does. Tuning the 8v is more fun!

Where can you buy and have fitted a 'mint' vts engine for £700?

The £700 was only to fit the cam and remap the ECU btw, that doesnt include buying the cam or the complimentary mods (filter, exhaust, manifold).

I wouldnt expect to 'shake off' a vts with a cammed vtr as they'd have similar power outputs.

Yeah have a word with cammedvtr mate, he's running about 139bhp at the wheels.

Had it cammed, remapped, full decat exhaust, manifold, filter and sparks, pretty good on a MK1 engine.

    139BHP atw?!

So around 168bhp at the fly then?

I dont even know how he'd have 139bhp atf with those mods, let alone atw. He must have had more done than that or gone on generous rollers. Id be happy with 130bhp atf if i cammed mine but wouldnt (and probably couldnt) expect much/any more.
