engine not running right after pressure washing

  1. #1
hi i wrote here last week about my vtr engine being pressure washed, i couldnt get it going at all but i tried it today and it was ticking over as normal. but as soon as i touch the revs it starts to splutter and try and stall, i can get it to about 1.5 revs. i already changed the coil pack and throttle body checked plugs. was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this as i need to sell it as got new car, was running fine before. cheers

i dont think it would drive, as soon as i start to rev it it wants to cut out. engine managenent light flashing. what would cause it to not rev ?. i let it run until the fan kicked in a few times to hopefully dry whatever it is out, got it nice and hot. had diagnostics on it but finds nothing.

It sounds like uv allowed water into your air intake hence when you try an rev it it's suckin water in

What air filter is it running? If its standard set up, would be a good idea to check the filter and make sure it and all the housing is dry inside.
Engines / electrics / sensors do NOT like water.

its the standard filter. ill have another look at it make sure. im gonna stick another map sensor on today what i had lying around. someone said it could be the inlet manifold any ideas?

Sounds like you have got something electrical wet and its screwed up the readings, or could be your ecu got wet and has screwed itself up internally either way that would be my first guess over water in the engine.

yea i thought that but the mechanic has had diagnostics on it and says ecu is fine. it didnt bring any codes up. eml is flashing only when try to rev though. it runs perfect on tick over thats the annoyin thing.

Have you sprayed everything electrical in the engine bay with WD-40?

no i didnt want to cause more problems, so i unplugged every sensor and left for few days. plugged them back in yesterday and it fired up as normal. only on tick over though.

Then spray the sensor plugs and connectors with WD-40.

i just done what ya said sprayed them all. so far ive changed coil pack, throttle body, map sensor, lambda sensor. all the sensors and connectors look dry. it was a bit better today could get up to 2k revs. there is a strange high pitch whining noise when i start it up now though. then it stops after about 20 sec.

have you tried leaving it running on idle for half hour to an hour, and even giving it upto the 2 k revs, and see if it gets any better,

yea i just let it run until the fan kicks in a few times, gets nice and hot. it is definetly better than a week ago, couldnt even get it to idle then. im running out of ideas now, looks like its gonna have to get towed to the garage.
