8v tuning????

   Im pretty new to this and i can see already a lot off people will just jump in an say go 16v, but this is in a rallycar which can be no more than 8v for the class i run the car in....
   
   So basicly im after advice as to what will get me cheap power???
   
   I alreay have manifold, exhaust etc etc.... Im looking for what to do to the engine

   you need to check the regs for what your allowed to do to the car first

   As blackie_2k5 said you have to look at your regs. As no point doing something prohibited. Then look at how much money you wish to spend. As what you would do with £1000 is not the same as you would do with £6000. Most cheap parts you may consider fitting to a real budget racer would be no good what so ever if your planning on spending a bit more. So you are best to plan it all out before spending your cash.

   Car Run's in Class 10 8v modified. So basicly i have no restrictsions apart from 8valves. Was thinking on starting with putting cams etc in and working from there??

   Depends if you want to keep the iron block or go for an ali unit to keep weight down. I'd PM some people on here with high spec 8vs to see what theyve done but as you've mentioned you need to keep the cost down, rallye head/cam is a good place to start

   That's a very competitive class.. Generally very expensive engines

   Generally in Ireland that class isnt to competitive. Most people go for 16v. Im running pretty much standard engine with just inlet, exhaust an manifold at the minute and im not that far off the pace of the 8v mk2 escorts considering the money they have put in them. So im just looking to increase the car by 20-30bhp for now.

   Cat cam 646 camshaft
   Omex 600
   Peugeot 406 2.0l 16v pink injectors
   Janspeed exhaust manifold
   A sports exhaust of some sort.
   
   Should see 140bhp ish maybe.

    we used to runa 1294cc race car --157bhp@800--power didn,t drop any large amount till you went to 9000
    
    but if its budget rallying --then first thing is to sped the money on the g/box --there are nostd cit/pug ratios from any m/a gbox that will make it low enough geared to be competive for rallying
    so if money is tight spend it on the g/box that will make alor more difference to times than just getting another 20-30bhp and engine will be very relaible
    spend around 2.5k on the transmission and it will give you better performance increase than anything else for money spent

    Have to agree with the scotsman!!
    
    no point having a big shiny powerful engine, if you can't get to the finish, which unfortunately the owner/driver of the VTS I service for learned the hard way, Group N engine broke 5 MA boxes, before he did a BE conversion and finished every rally bar one since then due to an oil fire, last year or so has been running 170+ bhp.

    My car is built for class 1 so up to 1.4. The engine was Rallye alloy block (21kg lighter than iron block). Xsi crank and rods with bored liners, Wossner forged pistons making 1397cc. Minister ported head, lightened steel flywheel and paddle clutch, sandy brown inlet, Jenvey itb's with larger injectors and super sprint manifold. Gearbox is MA dogbox with gripper LSD. The engine used a remapped ECU set at 7850rpm and made just over 140bhp. Made much more expensive and powerful cars look silly.
    
    If you want to be competitive you're best off running in 1400 class as everyone wants to run in the bigger and better classes where you need really really deep pockets to compete, and usually you're up against ex works prept cars where you stand no chance.
