Lights and MOT

  1. #1
Excuse the silly question, but i have my MOT coming up, however my sidelight and one of my registration lights are not working. I was wondering if you would recommend taking them to a garage beforehand to get the bulbs changed, or wait until it has its MOT for them to change it themselves. Just thought the latter would maybe be a little cheaper.

    Thanks for any replies

you can change these yourself, it really is the simplest of jobs I promise

Failing that, the MOT station probably wont even charge you labour if you smile sweetly - just the price of the bulbs - if you're having the MOT done there. It's really not worth going to a garage just to get some bulbs changed that's for sure!

My mom generally waits for the mot tester to pick up on them, then they get changed for free. But that's because she's oblivious to anything and doesn't check anything at all before the mot lol

Prise them off carefully (the bulb covers) and there's the bulb. Twist, remove, replace, twist. Done.

For the number plate, a small screwdriver to prise the cover off with. For the headlight sidelight, open the bonnet, look in where the back of the headlights are and you'll see the bulb wiring connector - twist, pull it out, there's the bulb. Now just remove that, and refit.

Promise it's as simple as that!

Worst case, get a friend to fit for you

do it yourself, its simples. you not got a haynes manuel or anything that you could look in to help ya?? if you just CBA then i guess it would only cost a few extra pennies on top of what it would cost to get a new bulb anyways.

most garages will throw little bulbs in for nothing, (plate lights ect...)
