Okay need some suggestions guys, started the car the other day after changing my driveshaft, decided to take the car for a spin and i noticed the battery light on the dash was flicking constantly. i then noticed that as i went to reach biting point on the cluth the car just kept cutting out with the revs dropping down. Ive changed the coilpack and this has had no effect and ive swapped over batteries and still the same. The car starts up okay its just as soon as i go to move it it wants to cut out. Help appreciated. Thanks.

#2id go and get the alternator checked out.
-
#3alternator is not that old either. was new when i bought it and has not covered 10,000 miles yet.

#4well get it checked as that would be the first thing to come into my head if it cuts off when holding revs and battery light is on, could be a loose connection to it somewhere. My battery light cane on when I was driving once, took it to local garage and they found theloose connection and sorted it out for me for free

#5Flashing battery light usually means the contacts aren't on properly or the alternator is on its way out.
Weird on with the stalling when setting off. Can't even make a suggestion..

#6yeah ill get it checked over, cars nothing but a pain in the arse sort one thing and then theres another issue.Quote:well get it checked as that would be the first thing to come into my head if it cuts off when holding revs and battery light is on, could be a loose connection to it somewhere. Ive checked all the contacts and it has not solved the problem, i was thinking maybe the idle control valve, but im better of testing my alternator first then looking at the icv. -
#9Sorry about both posts, on my bladdy phone and lost connection

Checked them or took them off wire brushed them and refitted them?
Try this for your ICV - turn the key to the 3rd position - then back to 2 - back to 3 so that 7 times and start.. resets the ICV.
so 2-3 2-3 2-3 2-3 2-3 2-3 2-3 start..

#14do you have a four branch manifold mines used to make the little red wire on my alternator really hot and cause my batt lite to flicker and if you keep resetting icv and keeps causeing promblems sound like theres a faults there woulend explain battery light though ??

#15This is a problem found on the Mk2s when certain 421s are fitted such as the racelands, when they get hot then you have problems.Quote:do you have a four branch manifold mines used to make the little red wire on my alternator really hot and cause my batt lite to flicker and if you keep resetting icv and keeps causeing promblems sound like theres a faults there woulend explain battery light though ??
