Copper grease is the last thing you want on everything in sandy dry conditions. Sand will just stick to it and wear everything at a faster rate. The baha boys us something called dry white lithium grease it's dry so nothing sticks.

Also get yourself a fine particle sock for your air filter or it will clog and you will be fucked.

if you run out of water check the sunroof! On a serious note, well, no just want to be nosey, why take a saxo across the desert? Surely a 4x4 would be better?

I drove the same model to Mongolia in 2009 and it did so well I drove another to Syria last year and now another to Mauritania.

Small, light, can take a pounding and always last the distance as long as they have low mileage. (A few other drivers took high mileage Saxos and broke down). I paid less than £400 for each one as they were Cat D with external damage that I repaired

I have had more fun doing these trips than any 4x4 stuff, driving a 1.1 Saxo up a mountain and then down the other side again in one piece is a real trip

Ok, so I finally got an answer on an Overlanding forum even though they don't like me much because I am doing the same routes they do in their flashy 4x4s in a little Saxo

Im to use manufacturer specific lubricants and then cover with Silicon spray

They also scared the shit out of me when they told me there were still some active mine fields along my Southern route!!!
