Fucking brake drums

Another bolt cross threaded the drum, this is the third drum in two months, and i got them because of the same things. Id tighten the bolt and just when it would get tight, it would go loose, and a big wrap of coil would be around the bolt, today i done the same, its more than finger tight but not as tight as it should be. Why does this keep happening?

Sounds like your cross threading them to me.

I know but since i fucked the first one, iv been really careful since, i got my tyre changed last week and the guy cross threaded two of them

    Wrong bolts?
  5. #5
Well there not the wrong type, but perhaps the bolts are causing it, as iv not changed them?

Have you check the thread on the bolts to ensure they are not damaged?

Are you starting it with your fingers or a tool??

Starting it with fingers until it goes finger Tight, then use a breaker bar.
The bolts dont look all that bad, a couple do but not majorly.

I cross threaded my rear ones recently and had to get new ones from the scrappy, mine happened because I had the bolt in at a slight angle, and was using the wrong holes on my wheels (have 8 holes in them)

The car ran on three bolts for over a year without me knowing, and at least its on.

Without being sarcastic I think your best bet is to let a garage fit a new set for you,as I think somewhere along the line your cross threading the bolts mate.

I did and they fucked it, which is why it ran on three bolts for ages, they never told me. they put masking tape around the bolt and hammered it in to make it look like it was tight, so it's not just me that's fucking it.

Have you checked the pitch of the new threads as well as the M rating? You shouldn't be using a breaker bar either. Not everything has to be hulk tight. If all else fails tap a new thread and start again.

No how do i do that?

with the right tools, tbh if I was you, i'd start again with new rear drum outer casing and new wheel bolts
