what hell is going on???? little help please

hi all. as you can see im new to this site and in need of some help quick.

where to begin....i got my saxo vts a couple of days ago and it has had a conversion as it was a vtr. their are pipes blocked off all over the place and their is a vacuum pipe coming out where it says 16v on the left to the front of the engine but not connected to anythin????? the car seems to be idling all over the place and it cuts out if you give it any stick and let the revs drop. also seems to be lumpy upto to 3k then it flys and seems normal. dont want to get rid as i like a good project but i just need a little help sometimes. is their anyone from crewe with a vts so i could have a quick little look at the engine and see what is ment to be here and there. its got a straight though exhaust on it aswel which i mean no cat or middle section just a standard back box which is blowing its tits off. the main thing at the mo is to try and stop the bad idle and cutting out. any help. cheers ant

best thing to do is take a few photos of what you mean and then post them.to this website, that way you can get some help without even moving lol.

there is a guide on the website somewhere, im on my phone or i would link you to it.

Getting some pics up in the next 10 mins. Hope someone can help me solve where they all go. Iv had a quick look aswel and I don't think their is any lamba sensors on the exhaust. Do you think that could be the cause of the juddering at low revs and revs dropping and cutting out?

as you can see their is a bolt in this pipe. i think it comes out of the fuel rail under where it says 16v. whats it for and where does it?

these two pipes are under the manifold?????

the pipe im holding is a vacuum pipe and its going under where it says 16v?????

this pipe is going under the ecu and into to wing but im thinking is it ment to be connected to that vacuum pipe or is it for somthing else? same pipe with a plastic pipe in the middle of a rubber pipe

First/second pic looks to be the fuel return. When doing the conversion to mk2 vtr's you're supposed to plumb this in, won't be helping your running issues. There is a guide on here showing how to do this iirc.

Third pic is the heat exhanger/oil cooler which is supposed to connect to the top rad hose. Need a 16v top hose to fix that.

Forth/Fifth pic hose should be connected to the carbon canister in the wing, some people remove it altogether though.

looks like a top notch conversion that does...

Big mess that's what it is. Have you got the link buddy?

Pics have expired but its worded quite well so its easy enough to follow, also i've just seen you said you don't have a lambda, are you sure?
It will be in the manifold on that car.

The car seems to be dropping revs like theirs no tomorrow and the fan seems to be on most of the time aswel or do vts engines run hot? When I pull up and push the clutch down the revs just drop and bounce back up, like it's going to cut out and the car judders at low revs anything under 2 1/2k.

No they don't run especially hot, mine have always sat below half when driving, then after sitting in traffic for around 4-5 mins its getting just before 3/4 where the fan usually kicks in. I noticed you're running the vtr rad and fan which probably isnt helping massively.

The erratic running you're experiencing could be a few things, as you say could be lambda related, idle control valve, map sensor or coolant temp sensor would be my guesses. Do you have any mates with a vts which you could borrow the sensors to work out which one you need?

Failing that try and get it on diagnostics and see what faults come up.

I'm going to nip my local scrap yard tomorrow as they have a couple of vts in so going to park my car next to it and see what's different than mine then take the bits off. Will take all the sensors off aswel and test them to see if it's any of the things you said.

and you bought it like that?
    hmm
anyway, i hope you get it sorted!
  15. #15
Yeah. I like a good old project
  16. #16
I admire your commitment, I wouldve told them to do one if it was any more than £150.
  17. #17
    At high revs it's fine
  18. #18
    From the scrap yard?
  19. #19
Well thats great if all you do it floor it about but if you drive it sensibly you'll want the lower revs too. I'd suggest your timing is out if it "comes to life" after a certain rev range. That or a vacuum hose it blocked.

Well the vacuum pipe that comes out near the fuel rail on the left is not connected to anything it was blanked off but when I took the blank out of it it ran alittle better but still dropping revs and on idle and juddering under 2 1/2k

And no I don't boot it around everywhere, got my son and head bangging misses lol
