Important! : Starting issue??

  1. #1
Okay a few weeks ago the Saxo battery died which resulted in me having to buy a new battery for it, then the other morning I tried starting it and it wouldn't start, managed to get it jump started by a mate then it ran fine etc.
Then the next morning it was playing up again, but I tried it a few times and it actually turned over and started up.
This morning however, it didn't do this but I was able to bump start it?!

Anyone got any idea what this could be at all?
It had the coil pack replaced last year and a new battery a few weeks ago so I can almost rule those out.

It's in the garage now but I highly doubt they'll be able to put their finger on the problem so hoping someone may be able to shed a bit more light on the issue?

    It's just a 1.1 saxo not vtr/s

Personally I think it's just playing up as I've just bought a 1990 civic sedan and it's jealous

Is the alternator actually charging the battery?

I would have no idea how to check this but it's never had any issues with charging in the past until the other battery died.

neither had mine till the cable snapped lol, you need to use a multimeter when the engine is running and see what V the battery is running at, needs to be about 14V when its running

Hmmm hopefully the garage will do that!
Luckily I parked it on a hill last night but as you can see I've neglected it lately in preperation for getting the Civic!
    Looks in a sorry state

Hope they don't try having you off.

Alternator for £20-30 off here.. few bolts and it's swapped.

If it turns out it is the alternator I'll just do it myself hahah.

Had this to 3 different garages today and none of them could pinpoint the issue...
They checked alternator, starter motor etc and all have shown no issues.
Can't seem to find any drain on the battery either!

So I took it back to where I got the battery from which is still in warranty today and they said that it's probably because my positive terminal connector was broken(split but still held on), so after aaaages of trying to source a standard saxo terminal and failing, have managed to connect up a new aftermarket one which fingers crossed, will fix the issue??

If not then I can only presume that the battery is to blame.
Will try firing it up in the morning, have parked on a hill just in case it doesn't start! Will post results tomorrow.
