Cigarette lighter issue?

  1. #1
    Hi guys

I've got to make a long journey in my car next week and need the sat nav to guide me, I was hoping to use the 12v cigarette lighter to power it but it doesnt seem to power and car adapter I plug in? If you push the button in on the cigarette lighter itself, it heats up absolutely fine, but the socket wont bloody power anything up?!

Can it actually power things or is mine just buggered?

    Thanks

yours sounds buggered. Might be that the parts that touch the thing you want powered inside the cig socket are corroded. Easy job to get another cig socket from a scrappy or someone here though to and swap em over. 2 mins tops.

Well he's said his will heat a lighter, so fuse is fine. Must be the socket itself.

Glad to hear its a simple job to do, how do you get them out of the dash?

Yeah I'm guessing the lighter itself runs from what is at the very bottom of the socket, which isn't corroded, I can see the outer edges are all white and feel very rough, so if its not a lot to replace then I'd replace it

Mine does this, if you put it in at different angles it should work. Twist it etc

u can remove it by taking out centre console then taping it out with a hammer and it pops out. i left mine in vinegar for a few nights when it was a bit rusty worked well after.
also check the item your plugging in to make sure it touches the end or that, that isnt broke?

Push it out from the back of the console? We wiggled it in all directions without taking the centre console out and it wouldn't budge!
