Steering rack gaitor question (with photos)

Trying to replace the gaitor on the steering rack, any tips on how to get this bolt out? The bolt needs to be pushed down but there is just no room to do it.

    cheers

There's no room at all in that part of the bay like. Best bet is to get is to get an extension or other bits out your tool box and 'build' yourself something that will do the job I reckon. Try the bonnet brace, served me well on many an issue.

Is it catching on the bulkhead?

What if you spin the wheel (to the left I think) before trying to remove the bolt? Is there any clearance with the rack in that position?

You've started it wrong, you dont need nto undo that bolt. Theres a torx bolt at the very back facing upwards that you can undo (it comes upwards, looks like its not there in the photos so im guessing you have removed)

Once thats un-done you need to slide the housing/clamp off the main shaft that you can see just behind the arms, best way to do that is put the steering at full lock you will see the shaft will be pulled further into the rack, then tap the housing/clamp all the way off.

Depending what boot youve bought you may need to re use the yellow hooked part.

You will need both wheels off the floor to do it.

Thanks tom but whats the reason for both wheels off the floor? Is it easier to pull the track rods away as there is no like tension?

I have un done the torx bolt so do i still need to take this bolt out in the pictures as it links the track rods etc.

Yea it just takes tension off the track arms when its jacked up makes it alot easier as they do need to move to slide the clamp off. The bolt you have stuck in them photos dosent need to come out or be undone id tighten that back up first.

Yeah didn't need to undo that bolt at all! Just undo the torx turn the wheel and it just slips off well easy took 15 mins.
