Gear Stick Feels Sloppy

  1. #1
I've fitted a OBP Motorsport Quickshift a few months back and the gear change was lovely and tight without any movement.

In the last few days the gear stick has felt sloppy and loose though it changes gear lovely.

Any idea's what the problems could be? work out linkages? Worn out box?

linkages most likely. Did you replace them when you added the quickshift or kept the standard ones? If kept, you're making them work harder now, bless them, they're tired. Due retirement.

I would get under the car and move the linkages with your hand to see if you can work out where the play is coming from.

Likely candidates are the bolt/nut at the bottom of the stick, one of the linkages or the roll pin holding the control arm to the box.

    roll pin. Also good shout.

+1 on the pin, it's a long time classic. Every time I have driven a peugeot / citroen it would eventually give in. Not much of a problem though.

Ross, The linkages are the original ones. Worn out after 72K :/ I keep meaning to upgrade them.

I checked the bush on the bottom of the stick when I re-connected it with the quickshift back to the linkages. It was lovely and tight and the bolt as a snugg fit too.

The roll pin on the box is a brand new one and tapped in. I replaced it when I put the VTS box in.

Sounds like linkages to me then

Replace them with uprated ones, I used Kam Racing ones and they made a nice difference.

yep as above - replace em. Will for sure be that, and the transformation will be lovely

If you want to, that's the time to do a quickshift too (kam racing one) - will transform the feel if you're used to a sloppy sausage!
