#2Dear VTR bass 87.
All modern cars these days, have quite a few " sensors " that are put at
srtategic places, to " monitor " how the engine is running/ performing and
idling etc etc.
All the sensors have a minimum and a maximum " value ", these tolerances
are all pre-set by the cars E.C.U. If any of these minimum and maximum
values are exceeded, this will usually put your E.M.W.L ( engine mangement
warning light ) on, on your dashboard either constantly or intermittently.
However, it is possible for " sensors " to fail completely or intermittently
and the sensors can cause a whole miriad of problems, inbetween " total "
failure and " intermittent failure "
Words of warning, don,t disconnect any wiring connection blocks, and
switch the ignition on, as this usually results in a " trouble code " being stored
into your E.C.U, and may also result in the engine management warning light
being on permenatly, and could result in you having to take your car to your
main dealer, to have the trouble erased, with one of there " hand held "
computers.
On the latest SAAB,s before they went into admin. boasted 32 E.C.Us:
The five most popular sensors to play up are,- the " crank sensor " the
" oxygen sensor " the " idle air valve " the coolant " temperature sensor " for
the E.C.U ( not the sensor for your temp gauge in the car ) and the " map
sensor " etc.etc.
I hope this hepls a little, if you need more, just ask, but all of my advice
is for modern cars, not specifically to your " Toyota "
