I have VTR, and i have a VTS engine with everything needed to do the conversion. Im going to be doing it near start of september when i go back to uni. Is thier any1 who knows abit about the engine conversion process. That lives near stafford or in stafford who could maybe give me a hand over a couple of weekends. Payment would be gladly arranged. I could probably do it my self. But some1 with experience in doing it would be great. I have a driveway at my house thier etc. So would be really easy to work on. Pm me if your intrested.

#2its basically plug and play mate.
-
#3Yes i know mate. just wouldent mind abit of help. thought id ask
-
#4Let us know how it goes and take some pictures along the way. What mileage has your VTR engine done and are you looking to sell?
-
#5i have a few cinversion pic but they dont really show you step by step what to do.

#6Plug and play?... thats the biggest load of horse shit I've heard lol!... its only plug and play if the following criteria are met:
1) Both ECU and looms are either 3plug or single plug
2) Both have the same immobiliser and you have either the keypad code or the transponder and key for the new engine (or an unlocked ECU)
3) You have water hoses from the same series engine (mk1 bottom hose is to short for mk2 and mk2 has oil cooler in top hose)
4) Silvertop VTr requires the plumbing of a feul return so black top is preferable
Once you know you have these matching then great just unbolt the old and in with the new.
Otherwise, you will have to rewire the multiplug on the engine loom as mk2 is larger than mk1 and has 4 extra wires (usually)...
Oh and you will need a VTS throttle cable... you bodge the VTr by cutting it back but it will snap!, likewise you can extend the bottom hse but eventually it will split!.... I know from experience just ask Ets2k9 lol....
You'll also need a friend as I've done an 8valve on my own and it wasn't easy!... errr... I think thats it -
#7if you have all the parts you need and an unlocked ecu then it is plug and play. tell me how its not.
and the vts cable is longer than the vtr so how can you cut the vtr cable to make it fit?
i done 1 of these conversions last week so its all very fresh in my memory.
you also dont need the fuel return, you can just block it off. -
#8I can shed some light on this.Quote:

The cables outing casing was cut so that the cable could take a more direct route to the throttle, however this prooved to much for the cable and it was replaced with a 106 gti cable which works perfectly as is routed through the correct channels.
The morale of the story is get a cable that fits...
The End. -
#9i used a brand new push bike gear cable. clamps the same at the pedal eng and has the hammerhead to link up to the trhrottle body and they dont cost near as much as a vts throttle cable!. you get more than enough length and then you can just snip it back at the pedal end and clamp astop end on it!
-
#10Thats very creative, the cable set me back £23.
-
#11take the cable off mate and sell it on ebay! lol im sure you'll get a tenna for it + postage then just buy a £1.99 mountainbike gear cable and link it up!
ner only jokin. if you got the proper thing the thats sound -
#12No chance it was a mission to fit it, I'm not going through that hassle just to fit a Rally activator cable.Quote:

#13i used ot have q of them, lol. the bike im on about
-
#14you could just block it off but fuel consumption will be a bit higher. might aswell use it as it must be there for a reason doodQuote:Originally Posted by williamsvtsif you have all the parts you need and an unlocked ecu then it is plug and play. tell me how its not.

#15I did too but then BMX's came back into fashion so I sold to buy a Mongoose I dont think my back has ever recovered.Quote:

it isnt there though, you have to plumb 1 in.
i dont see how it will effect fuel comsumption. injectors will only inject amount ecu tells them to. -
#17It will not be plug and play as if you have a mk1 blacktop vtr the multiplug is 21pins (I think) and the Mk2 vts plug is 30 pin (I think)... they definately aren't the same size else I wouldn't have had to get the soldering iron out and rewired the multiplug from the original Vtr engine so that it fits the car loom side.... I did this about 6 weeks ago so its probably not so fresh in my memory, but I also state that the fuel return was full of fuel when I wipped it off to check it after initial fire up so where does that fuel go unless its blocked up, but then you'd have a return on the pump unless you have a silvertop and this would cause the car to fill with petrol fumes (or the engine bay depending on wether you leave the pipe). Like I said MK1 to MK1 plug and play, MK2 to MK2 plug and play.... not if you mismatch phases

#18i know it may not be there on the vtr but its there on the vts! blacktop vtr,s have a fuel return so my conversion wasnt too bad as i had a blacktop and dropped a 99vts engine in. mine WAS just plug and play as it came off an ex converted car!Quote:Originally Posted by williamsvtsyou could just block it off but fuel consumption will be a bit higher. might aswell use it as it must be there for a reason dood

but what im trying to say is that if the vts engine has got a fuel return then they dont just put it on for fun. it must be there for a reason so i would do it correctly and plumb in a new return!
