C5 wheel questions

  1. #1
I've just bought a set of C5 steel look alloys and have a few questions. Will they be ok with 195/50/15 toyo r888 tyres? Will I need spacers (I've heard yes and no on this) and finally will they be ok for track use, I've read a few comments about them overheating brakes, none of which are from people that have actually used them. So would really like to know from someone first hand who uses these on track.
    Thanks in advance

6x15, ET19, same size as standard VTS 15"s so no you shouldn't need spacers if you use the standard size tyre, however an R888 has chunky sidewalls so they may rub.

just looked on ebay, do you not need the one with the washers on for these? i was thinking about just going down the scrappy and grabbing a bunch of bolts, but i didn't think the ones with out the loose washer's where suitable?

wrong bolts, they need to have the washer on them so the taper doesn't dig in.

    VTR's use flat bolts anyway.

1.59 is better, but it shows its a Febi part, so try your local motorfactor, mine does febi.

Have noticed it scratches the paint off the tapered part of the wheels.. But my bolts are 100% tapered and are 100% from a VTR using standard VTR wheels + bolts - so maybe the mk1's where flat?

no, they're all flat, but later have a taper under the head for the steel spare wheel, those bolts weigh a bloody ton and aren't correct for the C5 alloy.

Hmm - not trying to argue.. but you have me worried now

    Pics for confirmation

    VTR wheel -

    C5 wheel -

VTR bolt (all 16 the same) -

They all look tapered to me - willing to be corrected though..
  14. #14
maybe tapered, but as said, they are supposed to have the washer. the mating surface on your c5's looks fucked tbh

How about the overheating of the brakes, has anyone had any trouble with this?
  16. #16
LOL, yes some muppet has stuck the wrong bolts on your VTR wheels, lucky they did not fall off!

I haven't experienced any brake issues, and have run them on a 180 bhp 1100 kilo ZX, and a 140 bhp 900 kilo 205.

I've just collected them today and can't believe how light they are! To get new aftermarket alloys anywhere near this weight, you'd be looking at a good £500+. Not bad for £80 for a set of 4. Taking them to get powder coated tomorrow, just need to decide on what colour, white I think to go with my white VTS.
  18. #18
    £80?? jammy fuck. lol.

i paid £180 for mine, although that did include a set of 195/45's, which are near enough that price anyway.

welshpug - are those ones with the washers the ones i need?
  19. #19
Mate £80's a bargain for them, iirc John with the white Vts used to run C5 steels and never had a problem with over heating. If your worried why not run a air feed off the fogs to the brakes

That price included a full set of bolts with tapered washers too! Yeah did think about running a cold air duct from where the fogs used to be, I'll see how it goes without first.

I was looking at getting some of these, but also heard from a few on 106 owners that there not adequate cooling for your brakes.
  22. #22
£80? pffft, £40 last week with bolts.

whoever is cooking brakes probably hasn't fitted decent pads or fluid in a long time and doesn't know how to drive.

    they're fine on 1.5 tons of C5.

Went ahead and ordered a new set of R888's today in 195/50/15. Getting them fitted tomorrow after I pick the wheels up from the powder coaters (played it safe and went with white). Also ordered a set of Berlingo centre caps from local Citroen dealers. Just hope the tyres don't rub now, although I WAS warned!

just abit of infomation for people.

the bolts in the link, the part no is a good part no, i ordered some after ordering one as a sample from peugeot. and they are the correct bolts. and either £2.07 or £2.30 each. (i can't remember. just said yeah order them. lol)

I can now confirm that Toyo R888 195/50/15 tyres fit C5 wheels fine with no rubbing on the arches etc They look and perform awesome too!
