When u say you got a new barrel you get new keys aswell?

You have to use the chip thats in your old key as the chip in the new key wont be coded to your car.

If that doesnt work, then Cam, the guy above can unlock you one and is a great guy, used him before and will do again.

Couldn't he just put the old key next to the barrel, it is just a sensor isn't it?

It has a pick up on the barral yer mate

So technically as long as the old key was strapped to it it could work then?

Not really, the ecu will still pickup either key and the car will be permanemtly un-immobilised. Much better to simply swap the chip over, providing you can get into the key that is.

I've tried taping a key before, it doesnt work, i think it always ends up picking up the key you insert as it's smack bang in the middle of the ring.

Arr I'm with you now, suppose for the bother of it it's easier to just unlock the ecu

Plus what you spend you'll likely get back. Unlocked ECU's get snapped up damn quick so if you ever decide to strip a car... always unlock it on the cars last run.
