when i start my vts theres a slight squeek like a bird chirping while it ticking over coming from the drivers side, ive noticed if the engine is under heavt load ie pulling out of a junction on a hill in too high gear its louder
whats the best way to track it down?
the cars only done 34000 but has been stood for 2 years before i bought it 2 weeks ago

sounds likely to be an alternator belt loose

lmao, been searching for hours n not quite found what im looking for! ill start stripping it down tomorrow n im sure ill figure it, thanks aaronsaxovtr im hoping it is the alternator belt n nothing to do with the timing belt etc

Timing belt is a toothed belt so shouldn't be that. I had something like this on my saxo and it was the bearing inside the alternator.

Change the belt for the sake of a few quid, if that doesn't sort it out you can pick up a reconditioned alternator for not much more.

had a quick try at adjusting in n the allen key bolt that moves the tensioner up n down is rounded off, any idea if this can be bought on its own?
