towing dilemma

    hey guys important
Need a quick bit of advice
Need to tow my saxo using the towing eye but whats better a tow rope or tow bar??
    Cheers.

Bar. Rope goes slack and tight and if you don't know what you are doing its very dangerous. A bar makes it easier as there is no slack you you still need to concentrate.

yh deffo bar its stronger and you can trust it

dont forget, when you get towed, you have to brake too

    Bar all the time

    If not get a trailer?

You still have to brake with a bar?? Thought you didnt have to
Actually k guess that makes sense to

Just turn round the corner like you would normally, brake like you would normally.

It ain't difficult, just concentrate and keep at about 20mph.

Yes - otherwise you're putting 1 ton + of force on parts of the car not designed for it (lateral force on the towing eye for example).

Towing with a bar is simple. Keep it slow, anticipate braking and do EVERYTHING gently - turning, braking, pulling away. Work as a team and it's straightforward.

Towing with a rope is harder for both parties - the driver of the tow vehicle has to be much more careful, and the tow-ee needs to do everything 200% more careful and slowly than with a bar. Also need to keep tension on the rope at all times. If it goes slack at all, when tension is reapplied it can snap easily.

Use a bar. If you can't use that, get it on a trailer.

My mate had a Subaru forester and a semi lob on to tow something, I burned the clutch out on my 180sx, the cars were connected using his pristine towing rope and off he went, rapidly, the coil of rope unfurling like a cartoon and he almost ripped the front off my car and the rope snapped in 2

    the bender

    cool story, etc
