Important! : New driveshaft not going in!

  1. #1
Right just swapped my driver side driveshaft, they both came out fine (had to remove both as i took the engine out) then the passenger side one went in perfectly and bolted that all up, job's a gooden. But i've got round the drivers side, and it won't go in far enough! i'm about half an inch off the seal and i can't work out why?!

Checked it with the old shaft and its the same length with no difference. I've taken it out several times, spun it round, push it with all my strength. . still nothing.

Anyone got any ideas as to whats going on? ?

    cheers

possible that the spring clip of the old drive shaft is still sitting in the diff, stoping you from pushing it all the way home or makybe the drivershaft oil seal is seated in to far and its giving you the illusion of it not being in all the way ? just a thought charlie

clean the intermediate bearing carrier, I have had this be full of corrosion and not allow a new bearing to seat properly.

You sure its the right one?

I had this problem when i changed the driveshaft on my VTS. The new and old driveshafts looked identical but the splines at the end which go in the gearbox were different

Urrrm, well as it is now, its turns the box, so i'm gunna guess there the same. I'll double check though. If i remember rightly, the did the look EXACTLY the same.

That's exactly what mine did, turned the box but didn't go fully in

Take it out and count the number of splines on the new driveshaft and then the old driveshaft and see if they match

    might be the diff bearings.

    Get pics up mate.

Double checked the splines and length once more and there both same. Did take some pictures, but my photobucket isn't working

They don't have to go in a certain order do they? Just thinking if i take out the passenger one and see if that has an effect?

    Really puzzled now :/

Check the old one fits back in?

car left in gear not sure if thats viable..

grease the splines and the outer of the intermediate bearing and the carrier then give a small sharp tap on the wheel end of the shaft whilst pushing the shaft into the dif, i had the same problem and the above seemed to work
