Drivers seat - loose mounting bolt

  1. #1
On the drivers seat, the runner closest to where the gear stick is (left hand side of the seat, when sat in it)...

The bolt is loose, causing the seat to move around & rock quite a bit.

I attempted to tighten it up using the correct size torque bit, but it went really tight & now starts to spin (it tightens slightly, then goes loose again).

There appears to be some form of plastic/rubber mount underneath the seat runner, whee the runner comes into contact with the floor pan of the car.

I can neither tighten the bolt, nor loosen it to remove it, it just spins!

How can I fix this problem, please?

    Cheers,
    Pete

my friends 106gti had this problem
he jammed 2x 1p coins in between the runner and the floor to try and fill in the gap, which stopped it rocking as much.

A mate of mine said this is quite a common issue - mine has done it on my VTR and it's now rocking like a mofo.. I'll take pics next time I have the drivers seat out but the actual threaded hole which the bolt screws into is a separate piece of metal to the chassis/transmission tunnel, hence it is able to work loose and cause the wobbly seat problem you describe.

Having looked at mine the other day, there are 1" cracks in the metal work surrounding this little threaded mounting plate so the only option I could see to fix it would be putting a dab of weld on it to make it solid again.

No big deal for me as I'm fitting bucket seats on box section metal in the floor but for guys running saxo's as everyday cars it'll be a right pain in the ass..

Only options are to either re-tap the thread & fit a bigger bolt or get the existing bolt welded to the floor pan.

Same as me failed mot so removed seat and carpet and got a plate and welded a nut in the under side and welded the plate In place and put all back together and now it's sorted

My drivers seat doing the same thing thought it was just my fat arse that broke it lol is the carpet easy enough to pull up?? As I'll give it a tap of weld on Saturday.
