engine problem

    Hi can anyone help ive just fitted a new altinator to my 2003 vtr and when i was checking the chargeing rate i blipped the throttle from under the bonnet and now the engine is raceing up to 4000rpm, cable has not been snagged and it is fully closed on the butterfly, whats going on? when swiched off and restarted engine revs at 1500rpm and when throttle used it goes up again help

    Try disconnecting the battery for 1/2 an hr,then take the car out for a run.
