re-setting EML

  1. #1
    hi guys,

to re-set the EML do i have to take it to citroen or can any garage be able to do it?
also, how much roughly would it cost, if anything?

    cheers

    10-20 in a garage at a punt.

can also buy ebay readers that can clear the light.

search obd reader on the bay.

yes mate i dont see why it wouldnt be ! i guess they all work in the same way, as long as your car is obd compliant ( iirc all cars after about 01 were) you should be okay. google obd plug on google and check with yours to see if its the same.

plug is located under the dash near the fuse box inside the car

    mines on an 03 plate.
cheers for your help, much appreciated.
nothing wrong with the car and light is beginning to piss me off now lol
  6. #6
no worries mate, glad to help

light should only come on if there is a problem though, but if nothing feels wrong it could be just being french lol.

You're best off buying the proper one off ebay.
  8. #8
and which one is the proper one, theres loads :/

eml has been on for about a year (was on with the previous owner), starts/drives fine so just thought it needs re-setting.

Its grey with the Citroen logo on.

We have a decent Snap-on scanner that will clear the light if that's all that it needs and if there is something wrong it'll be able to give a much more accurate diagnosis than the cheap eBay ones. We're based over in bromham so not far from you if you wanted to pop across?
  11. #11
fix the fault, that'll make the light go out.

I bought that for £9.99, used it alot - leave it connected / sync'd with mobile and have all the gauges/readings on the screen..

    black tape over the light

My EML came up after 2 months of having cat replaced, replaced lambda sensor post cat and now no EML correct me if i'm wrong but if the sensor is f**cked it doesn't affect running of the car just thinks the cat isn't doing it's job..

    threw up 1 fault

PO420 catalyst efficiency below threshold (bank 1)

wtf does that mean in english? lol

EDIT: lambda sensor, will be getting that changed then
  25. #25
Should do your car will be a obd2 socket and the 3 plug saxos can be read by them, i got the same one and its works on everything 3 plug saxo i ever used it on about 7-8. Dont work for the single plug ones.
  26. #26
    My EML never came on
Went to my local mechanic + family friend - plugged his £3,000 snap on OBD reader in
Threw up 3 errors, two based on my decatting (1st/2nd lambda) and then one about the air pressure sensor - turned out one of the 4 wires to my MAP sensor had snapped - was making the car slightly hesitant
But no EML for these issues, just the ECU had logged them, so we fixed the wire and cleared the codes - job done

yes, could mean a leak in manifold/cat/exhaust system, lambda sensor(s) wiring or the actual sensor, engine coolant sensor not working properly, leaking fuel injector or high fuel pressure, cylinder misfire or oil contamination
mine is lambda's, just need a big enough open ended spanner :/
