So what does the oil breather do/ what is it for? Mine seems to splash my air filter with oil and hot air? Is it best to remove it from the air box And get one of those separate filters for it? Also when I take air filter housing off to clean throttle body and icv, the throttle body and Icv seem to have a layer of oil on them.. Is that normal?

#2Not sure the exact reason why it's used.. Must be for emissions or cold starts.
But in my eyes its just putting already burnt air back into the engine. Also, as you say - causes dirty sensors and throttle-body / inlet.
I wouldn't just put one of those filters on though.. it just splashes oil over your engine / bay.
Either buy a catch tank.. Or abit of hose and a plastic bottle if your not a show whore.

#3It stops the engine from getting too much pressure by letting oil vapours escape(as far as I know)

#5Where else you going to put it on a road car that doesnt create a mess?

#7Does it need a filter on the breather? Or can it be left open?

#8A filter on it is peoples theory, that as its vents crankcase pressure it may suck dirt back into the cam cover. A catch can is the best solution if you dont want it going back into the inlet. Its a convenient way of getting rid of the oil/vapour if its burnt off in the inlet
