just got back from a short drive around town to realize that one of my cooling hoses had been burst through by the drivers side front tyre, i have a 51 plate Saxo VTR, the hose is behind the wheel arch, the car has been lowered a bit but not sure how much, does anyone know how this can be avoided when i change the hose and ahs anyone else had the same problem? Cheers Sam

#2sure its a coolant hose?
you didnt notice a red hot engine light or hear the.pipe rubbing?? -
#3yea pretty sure it is, only realized once i was stopped, i could see steam coming from the brakes were the fluid was spraying onto them left it for a good 3 hours, let it cool down and drove it down the road home, not far 1 minute drive if that, engine temp was just over halfway with the aux fan just kicking in as i got back, it was an advisory on the last MOT was just wondering if there''s anyway of stopping it all together.

#5That coolant needed a change badly
-
#6yea there's bits in it, ordered a new pipe just not sure how long this one will last :/
-
#7It shouldnt rub on the wheel, hows it mounted? Also is there oil in the coolant?
-
#8are you using chocolate milk as coolant? lol.
as said shouldn't really rub so i guess you have a different issue or the pipe was mounted wrong. -
#9When you change the coolant flush the system out mate.
-
#10don't think there's oil in the coolant, only bought the car a few weeks ago, might give it a good service
got the new pipe today, got the new pipe today so i'll see if i can relocate it away from the wheel.
-
#11you definitely want to take the 'stat out and backflush it through after fitting that pipe
-
#12How would i go about flushing the system, run a hose through it till its clean?
-
#13Just sit the hose in and watch the crap come out..
-
#15Its outside my mates house so its alright
-
#18Looks like that's been run without antifreeze for a while. After you've repaired the hose, flush the system, asap.
And remove the radiator if you have the ability/time, and give that a real going through, shaking it about. Ideally use a proper flush too along with copious hosepipe water.1 user thanked this post: -
#19yea think me and a mate are sorting it tonight, give it a good rinse out
-
#21waht alloys are you running
and what tyre size
that shouldnt happen...not there at least -
#22Its all sorted now, repaired the whole with a piece of steel pipe, that should stay fixed
-
#23Why wont that rub thorough in time though?
-
#25Yep, sits under the chassis leg
