   Hi all, i know there is tons and tons of posts about de-cats, btu couldnt find exactly what im after...anyway i have a mk1 vtr, got an induction kit on it, exhaust is standard apart from a 3" sportex backbox, i like the noise it makes, but was considering a decat. was just wondering is it worth it with gains and stuff? also would it make my car much louder? i dont want it too loud, i like the little rumble it makes now help is appreciated

   Sportex and de-cat = bleeding ears.

   haha cheers buddy, the sportex makes a nice noise as it is combined with an induction kit, but if takin the cat out would make it that much louder it can stay in

   you've still got a silencer mid way up if its a standard system but yes it will be a lot louder

   nopee when i got the car was mani, then cat under car, then back box, thought that was standard on the phase 1 vtr? is same now but just with the sportex back box

   No there is a mid silencer too, but near the cat sometimes depending on the system

   oooh, mine never had one, looked like a standard pipe too, strange probably explains why it wasnt all that quiet with the standard back box, but i just assumed it was how the vtr's sound as it was my first one

   phase 1 should have a centre pipe with a cat followed by a silencer.
   if you remove just the cat, it will be a little more deep, and with sportex louder but dont think it would be indecent.
   remove the cat and the silencer it will scream its tits off!!

   thats mine with decat, 4-2-1, supersprint unsilenced centre and just a scorpion back box. Its a good deal quieter now with a cat in the system but it still pops and bangs
