Emissions trouble..

    Hi there all,

Im currently having trouble with the car psssing emissions for the mot..

i have a 421 mani with the catalyst to powerflow exhaust.

i have only the one lambda sensor on will this be a prob as i was told it should only need the one fitted?

Cheers any helo would be appreciated

Dont mean to sound like a bellend lol, but you do have a CAT in there dont you?
What manifold is it? is it a sports cat you've got?
    MK1 or MK2?

yes there is a cat fitted, ive got a 421 manifold, cat & powerflow exhaust

my vts is a mk2 but im only running with 1 lambda sensor frm the manifold

do i need both lambda senors before i can pass the mot?????

No only one lambda is needed mate the second is only to sense the clean air after the cat. The second lambda however should be sealed and sleeved so it cant sense anything.

Also how old is the cat and have you tried a quality fuel system cleaner such as forte or castrol with a long drive to burn all the shite from the cat?

what year is it? my mk2 vts has a lambda sensor in the mani and one just after the cat.

Mine passed the emissions fine with the OE mani>cat>supersprint catback 2" supersprint few months ago.

well ive had the motor in for the mot but i failed on high carbon monoxide's. I was told the second lambda would be needed, you's reckon i need a new lambda or should i fit the second one behind the standard catalyts??

the car hasnt any engine management lights on so there for im thinking the first lambda should still be working.. yet again the car is running shitie on idle..

Put the second lambda back in. Then get yourself a decent fuel system cleaner such as forte or castrol. and run the car for about 30 miles and get it good and hot then go for your re-test whilst the cat is red hot.

will give that a try & hopefully it will pass
    cheers mate

Marty80, you don't need the second "lambda" sensor, mind just passed without. (I dont even have the sensor on the car)

If lamba is not out on reading, check for leaks in exhaust low oil in engine, if not then likely to be the cat. How old is it?

    alright there bytor,

I did have the same cat on last year for MOT and it passed fine. Engine oil is fully topped up as i just fitted a new 3 layer head gasket and a set of 743 catcams.. I was told this wouldnt affect emissions on the mot without a remap.. here mate does it matter which plug the first lambda sensor plugs into?? both connectors for the lambdas are the same.. cheers bytor

    Prob easier with a picture:

    Was lambda out on emmission?

How much was co2 out by?

Don't know if the cams would cause the car to fail emissions, wouldn't have thought so. Maybe if it was running rough on idle, fast idle test should pass though.

i have 2x plugs for lambda's mate. 1 for the top of the standard manifold and 2nd thats fitted after the cat.. why are both connectors coloured the same? also the fail sheet never had the co2 levels. Was wondering, do both lambda's do there seperate jobs as i may have them connected wrongly? cheers

fitted both lambdas and the co2 are still to high.. would a leak on the exhaust make the levels higher???

    Cheers lads

or might this be the fse boost valve thats fitted giving me troubles? anyone have a good tip on setting up the fse boost valve proper..? or is there a standard setting from the close possition??
