I have a 1.1 saxo but have put a 1.6 vtr engine in, the engine management light wasnt on for about 3 weeks then popped up, it sometimes turns off for days/weeks but then will pop back up. There is no difference in the driving of the car when the light is on/off. BUT yesterday i drove to work and it was fine, when i came out and started it i found myself having to hold the revs or it was cutting out as soon as i let them drop, got home having to try and keep my revs up in between gear changes, once home i lifted my foot off expecting it to cut out and i didnt, and is now running fine ? Whilst driving it home when it was doing this it was making massssssssssive pops and bangs from the exhaust. Now its not and is running fine. any ideas ?

#2If the EML has come on you should have fault codes stored,so get them read at a garage or buy yourself a cheap scanner from ebay mate. -
#3Spluttery bad idle does it rev fine? Could be coil pack pops are unburnt fuel
