New clutch?

  1. #1
Okay so once every now and then if i press my clutch in and then release it too quick, i get a very noisy fan kinda sound coming from the engine, i then have to press the clucth back in to stop the sound then all is fine. This happens like once every 3 weeks or so.

Recently ive now noticed when the clutch is depressed and i sitting in neutral in traffic, i can hear a kind of hissing noise but when i prss the clutch in it goes away so it kinda sounds like the plates are rubbing together and making this sound.

I wanted to check with you guys first before i go ahead and get ripped off, is this just a release bearing or something like that? if so is it worth trying to replace just one part of the clutch? or get a whole new kit? how much roughly would it cost to get a whole new kit fitted?

ive got a 1999 saxo 1.5d. just over 100000 miles

    thank guys!

Does sound like the release bearing, and you could only replace the bearing but since it's a gearbox out job you may aswell do the whole thing and replace the clutch so you've got a bit of peace of mind

My mums car had pretty much the same problem I got a new clutch kit and fitted that and it solved the problem

When i'm speeding up and quick change i can hear a fan sort of noise as if it's on the drivers side under the bonnet lasts for about 3 seconds then goes. I always thought it was the actual fan speeding up cuz i was. Cars going in a few weeks so not really worried.

Thanks mate, yeah i can imagine it being abit of a job. i think ill be handing it over to the local garage to sort out. one other thing, i dont think im gna have the money to sort it out till xmas as i herd its almost £200 to get a new one fitted with parts, do you reckon it would hold out till then ?

If its the release bearing, you should be OK as long as it doesn't completely fail. Had a squeaky release bearing on my old fiesta for about 10k miles, never done any harm as far as i know!

I had a knackered release bearing a few weeks ago.

People harped on saying they last "k" after "k" I drove like a fairy (2k changes) for 2 weeks It was fine for a few days then it got worse day after day quite quick.. you get the odd noises when you change gear, eventually it will eat itself up. I had abit of smoke from mine the day it drove to the garage.

Id personally get it changed as soon as you can.

Depends on the driver and the engine to how long it will last you can't really say itl go when it goes but you can pick a clutch up delivered for less than 40 quid on ebay source it yourself as garages will charge you more a lot more and 160 labour sounds way off 70 to 80 quid labour for a saxo clutch its a piece of piss only takes a couple of hours shop around

I done mine last week £55 for clutch kit, and it would roughly coat £100 for a garge to fit it, but i did it at my mates garage myself but he said he charges 100 labour, it is a very simple job can have complications but need basic knowledge, is 100% thrust/release baring hope this helps

Okay guys so the clutch has got pretty bad now, finding it harder to get into gears, release bearing making constant noise when the clutch is engaged and i can hear the plates rubbing pretty loudly now so think its time to get a new clutch on asap!

Now as a student i need to go cheap but something that isnt so cheap its gna break within the next 1000 miles. I found this on euro parts.. http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Ci...0c4a139&000069

Has anyone herd of this make before? or know if it will be any good? or should i just splash out abit more and go for a proper decent make like valeo?

    cheers

Just been quoted £385 to get a clutch replaced ... fuck that.

am i correct in thinking i should only be looking to spend around £190 - £250 for a garage to buy and replace the clutch?

Were are you from and what saxo?

Well my clutch kits have always been 55 pound plus vat witch is bearing clutch and pressure plate, and everytime they have done thousands of miles without any problems and my labour would have been 100 but it was my pals garage so i paid 20 to use his ranp and tools ans abit of knoledge if i got stuck cant see why yours is so exspe sive, i would get the parts yourseld then quote a mechanic to fit it, if you were from birmingham i would have done it for you
