Lowering Rear End

  1. #1
What tools and how long will it take me to lowerer the rear end of my sax? just going to follow a guide which is on here...
  2. #2
Big hammer, Metal bar, Spanner set, socket set, Torx set, tape measure, wire brush and a drift. That's about it really.

No one will be able to tell you how long its going to take because we don't know how good you are or how mechanically minded you are.

    cheers mate

big hammer being the most important....(biggest hammer you can find)
  5. #5
    socket for arb
    socket for damper nut
torx socket for end of bars
flat head screwdriver/small hammer/pliers for eccentric washers
hammer and some sort of metal bar to hit the torsion bars out with
jack to lift the trailing arm
    measuring tape
and a squirt of wd40 wont go a miss

will be needing to lower a beam myself soon as i gotta change mine over but when you choose how much to lower it, do you just jack the trailing arm up as much as u want to lower it, so for example jack it 40mm to lower the beam 40mm?

If you want to lower it 40mm you jack the trailing arm up 45mm because it will fall 5mm when you remove the jack.

Its pretty easy if you use decent tools. Also replace everything you can and clean what you cant up with a wire brush and grease everything you can.

so, on the subject, if you were raising the suspension 40mm, then how much do you let the jack down? still 45mm?

    ahh ok cheers

No if you are lowering 40mm you let the jack down 35mm as it drops 5mm on its own.

well if the arm drops 5 mm when you remove the jack wouldnt u need to let the jack down 35? then it drops the extra 5?

why does it drop 5mm anyway?

Something to do with the strain on the torsion bar by the time the tiny bit of play gets to the end of the trailing arm it works out at 5-7mm ish.
  14. #14
ahh okk, suppose it is similar to it all settling down then cheers

You would probably need some m8 threaded bar to try and wind the bar out rather than thrash it out because that tends to push the trailing arm off

This isnt a good way to do it more often than not the threaded bar snaps and is a pain in the arse to get out.

The best way by far is a torsion bar cut in 2 and use the end of that to hit the bar out normally takes less than 5 hits if you hit it hard enough.

I agree that it can snap (snapped on me once) the only reason I wound it out as it wouldn't come out the trailing arm end for shit

could you not just use a hammer and punch? to knock the torsion bar out trying not to mushroom the end?
  19. #19
you could, but a hammer and big fuck off bar would work better

id only use a threaded bar if the torsion bar has already been out recently and was greased up. Otherwise i can just see the thread snapping inside there lol

Dont use a cheap punch/chissel ffs. I did last sunday and it shattered and put me in hospital. 3 stiches in the eye is not fun. Sledge hammer + cheap tools dont go!!
