Hi got a letter sayin i was doing 35 in a 30 zone through elvington. I always look out for cameras and never saw this one. I think they were hiding. Is there a law where they must be visible at a certain distance?? And does anyone know how much the fine will be. Will it affect my insurance. Cheers.

#5Remembering back now the village had like 3 sets of traffic lights and shit loads of workers and in hi vis and vans, machinery. They were relaying the road half of it coned off. The cunts could of been in a side street behind the workers.

#6might be wrong but don't they HAVE to put a sign up saying there are speed camera's about?
-
#7If they have signs up in the area, they can speed trap where ever.

#8Anyone know how much the fine gonna be and if affects insurance cheers

#11deffo 35mph on the letter? is it a Notice of Intended Prosecution? When is the date on the ticket of the offence, and when did you receive it?
The 35mph thing is interesting. It's below the ACPO guidelines for prosecution.
The date on the NIP and the date you received it are important also.
Let me know

#14not true i'm afraid. ACPO guidelines say they should be clearly visible, but breaking those guidelines doesn't invalidate the NIP. It would result (at worst, and only if you reported it to the department for transport) to that force being disallowed from the "netting off" scheme (which allows them to keep part of the fine).

#15I got done for doing 58 In a 30. Got 4 points and £160 fine
-
#17strange because i rember it beening debated in the houses of parliment to change the law so all speed cameras could be hiden but thay said that it was sneaky and underhanded and the law will remain that thay have to be clear visible...Quote:not true i'm afraid. which more than once ive gotten away with speeding tickets because the cameras where hiden (last one wasnt lol that was because it was a police car lol) -
#21if they was in a van, it has to be parked on hard standing. and signs must be visable, i got caught on a road that doesnt have speed camera signs but.... the sly pigs had like a road works sign on the path that displayed a speed camera sign, i could of taken the 3 points and £60 fine but i took it to court and the judge gave me 4 points and £120 fine.
maybe you could get a seminar, cost like £100 and no points. but you ma have to travel some distance and book a day of work so in all could be equally as cheap to get the points and let insurance go up £150 -
#22also you must receive your speeding ticket within 14 days of the offence, if not you can disregard it

#24One of my mates got caught doing 35 in a 30 and he got a £60 fine and should have got 3 points but sat for a day and took one of those speed awarness courses and didnt get points.

Even more of a Valid reason to get a ticket there, do you not value the lives of the workers fixing the roads you use? -
#26its very strange because on my speed awareness course (Worst 90 quid spent ever) they said they wouldn't ticket a driver at that speed because they do 30 + 10% speedo error +2 or 3mph at the prosecutors discression. You must live in a very harsh area.
Also, i was caught doing 37mph in a 30 and was told by the guy i was actually unlucky to get done for it.
Is the speed awareness course not an option for you?
