Engine cut out!

  1. #1
    Right, let me explain;

Casually driving down the road and my engine just cuts out as im pulling up to traffic lights. So i push it to the side of the road and try to start the engine but can only get the starter motor to turn over.

On the dash board the Electronic immobilizer ignition key light flashes as i try to start the engine (starter motor turning over) and the fuel gauge indicator goes all the way up and all the way down repetitively.

    Immobilizer problems?
How to go about rectifying and fixing the problem?

    Thanks in advance

Tryed the engine cut out switch?

What and wheres that pal? would that just cut the engine out whilst driving?

The engine cut out switch is at the back of the engine bay behind the battery, big red button. Think it can cut the engine out if you hit a big bump or something.
    Not 100% though.

As the previous poster stated is the fuel pump priming?

Not to sure if the fuel pump is priming, is there a way to tell if it is or not?

You`ll hear a buzz when you turn the ignition key to the 1st stage,if the immobilser is playing up it`ll stop the pump from priming mate(anti theft feature)

Right I've checked the engine cut out switch but that didn't work.
Not sure if the fuel tank is priming, any tips on how to check?

pull the bottom part of your back seat up and and turn the key to the first click you should hear a buzzzzzz then it will stop. if its not priming you wont get a buzz.

Ah thanks for that. I think this must be the problem as I didn't hear a buzz noise. What's next to diagnose/replace ect

Either the fuel relay under the ecu tray.

Or the immobiliser has fucked up and you need to remove the immobiliser box and get your ecu unlocked or fit a unlocked ecu.

I think with the key flashing on the dash that its more likely to be your ecu has locked itself and shut the fuel down.

I spoke to a mechanic and he told me that the immobiliser wouldnt function/stop the engine while tit was running.

He plugged his diagnostic machine and he was confident with the problem being a relay. He just wasnt too sure which one as he didnt have his wiring diagrams on him. I will mention that it could be the one under the ecu.

Any way i have another mechanic coming tomorrow so thats what ill explain to him.

there's only one relay, its under the ecu.

Are there not relays under the dash near the fuse box?
