Shortens the throw. Which quickshift is it? some are rubbish and others are pretty good. Nothing beats a satchshift however, but the GMC quickshifts are pretty good imo.

if you want the best out of it, buy some group n gear linkages aswell. you will feel so much different, short sharp gear changes. But as above don't buy any old quikshift buy a good quality one as you'll be able to tell the difference.

again mate it depends which type, theres the stick type, linkage bolt on type, and the compbrake adjustable type.
like ross said none compare to the satchshift but for simple driveway mechanics all will shorten the throw and tighten up the shift with minimal difficulty

grp n linkages are also worth considering if you want to reduce stick wobble and tighten up the shift

I'd disagree with the above to some degree... I've seen a few satchshift's and the throw usually looks pretty terrible due to the long stick. When done properly they do look pretty impressive but I've seen quite a few that have a longer throw than the original stick. Cases in point:

I'm not sure I understand the point of your post? Those are setup poorly (user preference not withstanding of course). What you're saying is that a satchshift, when setup incorrectly or intentionally loosely, has a long throw. Erm, yeah. It does.

Mine for example has maybe double the width of the gearknob from 1st to neutral, then neutral to 2nd. Maybe 4 inches maximum on full throw.

If you look at colins for example it's still longer throw than I like mine, but his is much better:

    That's how I prefer them.

I suppose I've just seen so many badly setup that it's put me off. I'd also heard that they are pretty tricky to setup well to get good response from them. Personally I like a lower stick setup but part of that has to do with good access to the vertical handbrake. As you said though, a lot of it is personal preference. It's worth trying a few setups if possible to see which one works best for you.

When you're fighting torque steer (severe enough that it will smack your wrists together on full boost if you don't fight it), you want maximum time with both hands on the wheel lol - the closer the gearknob is to the wheel the better for me!

Nah, you just need one of these

Or that sequential you were on about, with a paddle setup...

lol - a big bus steering wheel for me please

Those horn buttons are the don
