MOT passed but advisory about brake hoses being perished!!

  1. #1
Hi all, new to this and had a bit of a search but can't find answers. Anyway saxo desire x reg passed its MOT today eventually with advisory bulkhead around steering column corroded and rear brake hoses perished. Did not pick up on last years mot advisory which said corroded nearside front brake pipe.. So couple of questions:

    1. Should I worry over the brakes?bulkhead? either? both?
    2. Any idea of the cost of brake hoses being replaced (garage as I am a moron as far as cars go)?
    3. Same question 2 but cost of bulkhead?
    4. Feel slightly as if I have been abused by garage charging me £100 for labour; £50 to investigate and replace wheel cylinder: £25 to replace washer pump and clean out piping (told me it wasn't working, did last night but probably frozen with ice/should have used my wd40 before I took it in): £25 to clip in and realign my headlamp bulb (a bit of diy off utube, apparantly I didn't fit it right). So it cost £329 all in with a interim service. Is this normal cost for labour at a garage or excessive? (used good garage scheme!!) but feel they may have thought idiot woman lets charge her. So borrowed money and sold a couple of phones/ipods to cover costs but definately worried about brakes and wondering if it is something I should sort out in next week/month/2 months?

    thanks in advance

You should obviously sort out the brakes.. but £330 seems very excessive!

pictures of the corroded brake lines would help i usually get some emory paper and clean brake pipes and put a bit of copper grease on them if they arent heavily corroded. and the bulkhead, if the corrosion was only an advisory i would clean off any loose rust and then get it treated with maybe some rust remedy then get some underseal or somthing on it as for labour prices, i know the garage i recently stopped working for charged 35 pound an hour labour, which imo is cheap

thanks, makes me feel a bit better. Will have to look up images to see what a bulkhead actually is, ditto with brake lines I'm afraid. Do garages fit parts for you if you bought them yourself on the cheap?

£25.00 for fitting the bulb is a piss take, agree with everything else said mate.I`d add get another garage to look at you`re brake pipes a lot will check over & advise for free(piece of mind)
