Whats best to do with a stripped thread where the exhaust manifold bolts on? If i drilled it and tapped it to say m10 could i use a helicoil to bring it back to m8 size?

    Cheers

just tap it for an m8 helicoil now probably wont need to drill

Helicoil kits come with their own drill size and tap so you have to use what's in the kit. Get a proper helicoil kit though.

you don't "tap it to M10" then helicoil, you tap it to the right size to fit an M8 helicoil, which is a different thread pitch to M10.

use a Timesert however, much stronger than a helicoil, similar installation technique, but its an insert that fits very tightly due to the installation process, rather than just some wound wire.

They do cost more, so may make more sense to get an engineering shop to sort it out for you rather than buying the kit yourself, depends what you can get hold of, distributed by Wurth BTW.

Thanks for the replies will have a look at the helicoil kits etc and have a go at sorting it soon!
