Cam'd or not?!

Yet another question about my car

Read a couple threads about cams and got me think about my car. Since I've had the car, its had a bit of rough idle. I've cleaned the ICV but it still idles a bit rough. But I've noticed that when going through the rev range, it's sluggish low end but picks up at 4k and keeps going to roughy 7600rpm. There's signs on the engine that the cam covers have been off but I just put this down to new gasket.

As you can tell not that savy when it comes to cams, I've only ever had turbos which is a totally different power delivery.

well they dont rev that high as standard so somethings been changed, could be a remap but its unlikely someone would do that without changing other areas of the engine such as the cams.
I'd pop the cam cover off and have a look at the cams, wont be too bad a job providing you have some silicone/hylomar to seal it back up.

could be dicky lambda or map sensor.

    pull the cam covers off..

If I had a £1 for every time the question "I have a lumpy idle, is my car cammed" I'd have enough for premium membership...

Only way to tell is pull the cam covers off and look for sportcam style markings etc (CAT, SPORTCAM, & a few other). When you do, and realise they're standard cams, you'll be disappointed so I recommend you don't check, but live the dream

Cam covers on the vts dont have gaskets btw, its sealent..

But as said only real way to find out is to take them off

My engine is completely standard, unlocked ecu, and she revs freely up to 7000, the annoying thing about vts is that they have vernier style pulleys anyway, so best to do would be look at the cams themselves, look for labels, or just get it rolling roaded, see what your result is, or just pub talk it and people won't tell the difference haha
