swinging out the rear

  1. #1
came up to a round about , going for 2nd exit which is about 2 o clock? came up to it at 30 in the recent rain and i swung the rear end out! pretty much drifted just to straighten up to make the exit. ground was flat but a good deal of rain. got 3000 miles old flaken 912 on stock vtr rims with a lowering of about 50mm all round.

    few things:
    1. opinion on the tyre?
    2. is 50 mm so low it makes the back end swing, tyres arent great in the wet or am i simply going around it a little fast for the conditions?

driving to fast in the wet round corners, even in my crap fiesta that feels like a boat round corners i don't step out
  3. #3
def need to slow down then, thanks!

You lifted. Take a bit of a read up on lift off oversteer.

Exactly the above, wet roads will exacerbate it
  6. #6
I'm down 50mm on budget tyres and I haven't lost it yet.

you don't drive hard enough, lol.

Haha, I can't afford to drive it that much. I've nearly lost it though

Round abouts are usually the worst place for oil/petrol/desiel to sit so can be slippy. But everything else above also applies I used to use falken tyres but the wets and never had any problems moved to pilots now and seems to step out a bit more

Instead of trying to go round islands as fast as you can - It would make a little more sense if you just slowed down a bit.
You're only going to write off your car and increase the insurance premiums for the rest of us.

learn to drive, if you want to drift get a rwd car and go crash that with your aewsome drifting skills

you lifted off the throttle and suffered lift off over steer.

usually, saxos with 4 matching tires with correct pressures on dont step out much, its usually ones with a mis-match of linglongs and a decent tire on the front etc

    check tire tread
    check tire pressure
make sure you dont have some serious weight in the boot eg anvil, fat chick etc
drive smoothly and slowly in and accelerate out

    lolzzzzzz

If the back end is lower than the front, it will be arse happy.
  19. #19
trackdays are for practising this kind of thing, not the public road.

only if its so low that its bouncing on the stops.

I dont think tracks have roundabouts on to practice entering too fast on to make the arse end go out. Briefing at the trackday doesn't usually go "nows the time to brake round corners and practice getting the rear end out" either

take it somewhere out the way when its a slippy day and practice

    .
the reason will be that the rear end is too low, relative to front and weight distribution front to rear is wrong --presuming tyre pressures are correct
It is possible it could be sat on the bump stops ,but not at -50mm from std
