tyres rubbing? funny noise

  1. #1
Hi been getting a funny noise and think my front tyres are rubbing. Had a look and they seem to be wearing down alot on the inside tyre as you can see on the picture... It doesnt seem to make the noise when turnin left but when going strait or right it does.

cant see the tyre rubbing on anything......... only thing it can be rubbing on is this.. but seems to be big clearance between it and the tyre :s

could it be the tracking? car steers slightly right when putting steering wheel strait... any ideas?

Yeah looks like thats your problem mate, that spring pan is quiet low down, looks too low to me. Could be that its dropped down, check the other side and see how low that spring pan is

There pretty easy to move around and get off just looked a bit low but obv not. Try getting your tacking sorted

well the other side is getting the same amount of wear in the same place too. will get tracking sorted I guess and cross my fingers it goes!

If it was rubbing the strut ud most likely see where its been rubbing, try the tracking that might be it if its out badly

when goin over bumps the spring pan doesnt move up and down so could never rubb on the tyre unless it was broken or bent, it is fixed on the strut and the wheel fixed to the bottom of that.

will more either be tracking or your wheel bearing as well and truelly collapsed if it makes different noises going straight/turning corners etc.

hmm been to a garage they said they don't think tracing would cause his noise, however the tracing was out and that's why my tyre is getting un even ware.

Im sure my rear axel is fucked again Though..So do you think the noise could be the tyre rubbing on the arch wall? and when i turn left the wheel straitens up, so no rubbing?

check all your wheel bearings too.

jack each wheel up individualy and sit down and hug it and try rock it back and forth.

No were in any of my comments did i say that it rubs when going over bumps, and im sure that that hasnt been mentioned. I stated that i looked lower down and as the noise isnt constant it may have dropped down/failed casusing it to catch the trye.

Still cant find the problem... had the tracing sorted, they looked round and couldnt find anything rubbing from spinning the wheels. So it's either the ear axel? orr could be a wheel bearing? how can i find out if its a wheel bearing?

If you can get a video or audio recording up it may help diagnose on here

Here we go, tried my best. wasn't sure how well the noise would show on video. but if you listen carefully, at about 20 seconds in you can hear it...and towards the end.

After watching a few vids on YouTube, i think it could be wheel bearing? not sure how to test this without taking it to a garage though.

jack car up, hold the wheel at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock and give it a wiggle, if its moves / feels like there's play, then it will be wheel bearing.

Worst case senario... yes. Or the bearing will fail and do more damage to other components.
