temp gauge reading low

  1. #1
Noticed my temp gauge is only reading 1/4 even when i know the cars running hot it doesnt move any higher? I take it its one of the coolant temp sensors? Ive changed the one on the thermostat so just checking with u lot it will be the other 1?

    Cheers

Iirc the blue sensor on the thermostat housing controls the gauge reading mate.

Thats the one ive swapped over but its still the same might just try the other since theyre cheap enough

Try the other and if it still reads the same possibly a faulty gauge?

It used to read 1/2 to 3/4 most the time though so somethings not quite right.. Ill give the thermostat and sensor a go

Ive been doing some research and have found the heaters wont blow as hot if the thermostat is stuck open but mine blow red hot?

    not true

is in some cases but not all

feel the water pipe from the thermostat behind the engine, if it gets warm then its opening, so could in theory just be stuck open and taking longer to heat up..

when you say it doesnt move above 1/4 is this when driven then left to idle for a bit? or just driving?

    its most likely stuck open

so never gets up to temp right by the gauge, but still blows hot air

my van is the same atm, just need to change the stat,

no worrys your sticky rev problem is your idle control valve well that's what my problem was when my revs were sticking anyways try taking it of and really cleaning it hand then see what happens
