Temp sensor help...

    Recently converted my 3 plug 1.1 to a 3 plug 1.6 8v. On doing this we changed everything, including the clocks. My 1.1 didnt have an active temp sensor.. just a light that came on when it was close to overheating... i noticed when i was putting the vtr clocks in they do have an active temp gauge.... Mine isnt working, but still has the little light there incase it does get too hot. Any ideas why this isnt working ? Is it possible to fit an aftermarket gauge ? What does the standard gauge read the temperature of (or in my case not). Would be sweet if someone could help.

    should be working if ur running the ecu and everything for the vtr engine?

    Yeah running everything, ecu,loom,clocks,engine,box,vtr keys,barrel,rad and fan... everything

    Have you got the right plugs on the right temperature sensor? If they are swapped incorrectly the gauge doesnt function.
    However a temperature that works but is higher than normal like mine, well thats something different altogether..

    If its on a related topic... my fan doesnt come on when sat in traffic like it used to in my 1.1 so ive fitted a switch to turn it on manually. Where are these plugs located and how do i go about swapping them ? thanks

    there are two temp sensors, one that takes engine block temp and one that does water temp. from what i remember the water temp sensor runs gauge and fan and the block sensor is for the ecu. make sure theres no air lock in the system (bleed system to check) try another sensor as the sensor could be stuck inside as they work by grounding so as they temp comes up they start to give a better earth which is what makes your gauge move. this applies the same for fuel gauges

    Yeah the system has been bled, it try changing the temp sensor.
