thats the diaphragm that controls how much crankcase oil/pressure it sucks through the air inlet

thanks for that, it's clogged up with gunge i'm guessing water in the oil maybe head gasket probs?

Condensation from short trips will get in it and clog it up with oily mayo gunge. especially in this weather. However if it keeps coming back quickly and theres a lot a head gasket leak is suspect, my old 1.1 spi 106 had a very slight head gasket leak with oil seepage into the cooling system and it used to muller its breathers with this gunge.

I pulled that part apart out of curiosity and ripped the orange diapragm inside. Not completely destroyed it, just a little tear. Will it be ok or do you recommend I get a replacement? If so, where would I get one from? Thanks

if the diaphragm is damaged it will no longer work as it works by the air intake pressure, the more air being pulled in by the engine the more the diaphragm will open and allow more crankcase oil/pressure to be sucked into the air inlet. i do not recommend putting oil breather filters on crankcase breather pipes either as this means the oil fumes are let out in the engine bay and makes your engine bay all oily, not good if you have a open induction kit
